Siyeh Pass - July 20, 2009 Coordinator: Phil Shanholtzer Siyeh Pass is said to be the highest pass in Glacier National Park, and that's easy to believe as you labor up the last mile from Preston Park to the pass. As with all climbs, however, there's a reward: when you reach the pass, you know the uphill walking is done for the day - and the views in all directions from the pass are spectacular. The drop down the switchbacks from the pass into the Baring Creek basin is an extra added attraction. An additional bonus for the 11 GMSers on this outing was a spectacular wildflower show on the Baring side. Preston Park, the usual star of the flower show on this circuit hike, paled by comparison. It was a gorgeous day and we took our time for looking and photography, including the usual stop at the big, flat rock at the bottom of the switchbacks. Even so, we were back in plenty of time for a car shuttle back to Siyeh Bend and dinner in St. Mary. GMSers at Siyeh Pass were: Glynn Wolar, Bill Hoffman, Wanda McCarra, Pierre Piper, John Schwabe, Bob Gaffrey, Mike Diko, Christina Worth, Jack Rayburn and Phil Shanholtzer.
