Write Up:
Lone Walker Mountain July 18, 2012 Coordinator: Randy Peters Nine climbers left Two Medicine on the south shore trail about 8 a.m. Reaching upper Two Medicine Lake, we changed shoes and waded the shoreline about half the lake to avoid a nasty bushwhack. Drying off and re-booting, we scrambled up through grass and brush-covered rock ledges, then traversed across four or five gullies and scree to the cliffs below the saddle of Helen and Lone Walker. The normal route blocked by snow had us finding alternates which included several Class 4 sections. Reaching the saddle about 1 p.m., our group including Tim Anderson, Vic Davis, Bobbie Gilmore, Rod Graham, Warren Lane, Craig Swatland, Gordon Swenson, Laurel Vielle and Randy Peters enjoyed a break. Seven members continued to climb a long rocky ridge and reached the narrow summit block on the divide near 2:30 p.m. Spectacular views of Two Medicine, Coal, Park and remote Nyack drainages were absorbed before returning to the saddle about 5 p.m. Upon carefully descending the cliffs and rather retrace our ascent, we chose to run the scree down to the lake and then bushwhacked back to our wading shoes left half way down the shore. A return wade and trail return to the Two Med parking lot around 8:30 p.m. finished a long but rewarding day.
