Nine GMS members departed the Sixmile creek trail-head at 830 under cloudy skies and ominous weather forecast. We left the Sixmile trail after 1.5 mi and climbed the most direct ridge approach (which is partially blazed) to the summit of Sixmile Peak. Our first peak was reached at 1100. Snow was encountered at 5800 ft, though at least 2 ft. had melted during the prior week. The snow pack was well consolidated and the snow shoes we carried were not used. The group glissaded off the summit and traversed north to a saddle on the Swan Crest, climbing over or around three intermediate peaks before reaching Mt. Orvis-Evans at 1430. A brief squall obscured views at the summit, but the sun reemerged as we returned via the ridge top to Sixmile, summiting it for the second time at 1630. Entire route was 11.7 mi, 5300 ft elevation gain, 9.5 hrs.
