Write Up:
Uncertainty over the weather persisted right up until meeting at the trailhead. The climbing team was enthusiastic anyway and wanting to get the show on the road, so that's what we did. This is a testament to the benefit of forming group hikes as we do with GMS. Without the group spirit it would have been easy to find another way to spend a day with less than perfect conditions. Once underway it was obvious that we would have a good hike, and the possibility of success was getting better the further into it we were. Travel was good and relatively unobstructed by dead fall then completely unobstructed when the snow became deeper. Snow pack in the Missions is 125% of average this year and we walked on an estimated 8 feet a good part of the day. Poor visibility and uncertain stability made route finding interesting but everything went according to plan and the summit of North Jocko Peak was reached by all 9 climbers. The descent was a treat for those who enjoy winter in snow country with moderate snow falling. After 8 and a half hours we were back at the vehicles having celebratory snacks and drinks, and happy in spite of rain. Many thanks to a great team who worked together and contributed to the success in their own way, lending one another a hand when needed, with trail breaking, route finding and high spirits.
